The funniest thing I've seen so far today

What's a girl who isn't working and doesn't have anything to do all day going to do to waste time? Apparently read the CBSsports one blogging moment blog. Not everything on there is hilarious but some of it is good. And sometimes they find social media (youtube, twitter, facebook) source material that is worth sharing.

Like this gem from the Duke basketball team:

Granted it's terrible but it's got some things going for it. For one the production value, it's well done even if the acting is terrible. And two, it features Jon Scheyer who should probably not take up acting as a career but makes me love him more every time I see him. Third, the sweaty johnson! And Kyle Singler being attacked by lemurs. This is great stuff.

I'm going to miss the tournament when it's all over and my basketball boyfriends retire from college hoops.

Wikipedia is the greatest invention ever

In a world in which we are constantly stimulated visually, audibly and even olfactorilly (after much discussion of what we should call nasal stimulation this is what we came up with), sometimes I get bored. It's at these times that I turn to Wikipedia to learn random stuff.

Here's the great thing about Wikipedia, you can start with one topic and end up somewhere completely different. I don't usually go with the random article button. Usually I have something that I want to start off with and just follow links from within the article to other articles.

Sometimes the connections that are made from where you started to where you end up are truly amazing and sometimes even a little bit horrifying. You can get off topic pretty quickly but you might be surprised at what you might learn.

So is this something that you do? Or am I just some kind of weirdo? Wait don't answer that last part.

Sometimes you just get bored

As you probably know by now I watch a lot of TV. When I'm not watching TV I'm probably watching something that I downloaded so that I can catch up on past episodes. As you can imagine from time to time I get stumped about what to watch next. It's time like these I turn to my friends.

A friend suggested that I check out Castle. I was a little skeptical at first since I'm not big on cop shows, but I have to admit that I really like it. So what about you? Have you watched it? Do you like it? What else would you recommend for the next time I run out of ideas?

The 3 month itch

That's right it's been 3 months since I've been to work. Everyone tells me that I should take it slow but now that I'm starting to feel a little bit better I want to jump right in with both feet. I've been having a little trouble with staying on task the last couple of days though, hopefully that will get better. Anyways I've got 4 weeks of treatment left and then hopefully I'll be ready to go back. I'm just getting bored.

Oh I wish I had my laptop back. I've been using my brother's computer to do stuff but it's really really really slow and crappy and I miss the portability. I've considered getting a wireless card for my desktop but then I think what's the point since I won't use it once my laptop comes back. Have I mentioned that I hate computers.

The more things change...

You know the saying the more things change the more they stay the same? Well after writing this post I realized just how true it is.

Someone who reads my blog occasionally, but sometimes forgets that there is a comments section told me that she read that post and she laughed. I couldn't figure out why she thought it was so funny until I really started to think about it.

It would appear that I'm exactly where I started a little over a year and a half ago. I'm about the graduate from my certificate program, whereas in May of 2007, I was graduating from University. I have the same job that I did when I first graduated, but in between I worked a term in a different department. I live with my little brother in an apartment, but he moved out for about 6 months in between. Even on the crushing side I'm still crushing on a QB who's mom probably cuts his hair, though I've switched from Eli Manning to Jay Cutler.

So really as much as things have changed in the past year I'm really back to where I started.

My week off

So it would appear that I haven't written in a week. I guess it's mostly because I don't have a lot to say. I was also sick for about 4 days. I still don't have anything to say but I thought I'd better write something before ya'll stop checking back to see if there's anything new.

Frankly there is nothing new with me. I'm still at the same job, living in the same place with my brother, doing all the same stuff I've been doing for the past year and a half. Does that mean I'm in a rut?

I'm so very bored

Here I am on vacation with nothing to do. You'd think it would be awesome but actually I'm really bored. I would nap but I'm going to see my cousin's baby in just under 2 hours and I'm afraid I'll miss my bus if I nap (I don't do alarm clocks), I've already read a 1/4 of my book this morning, I could work on my assignment but I just don't want to and as far as sports go well there is a replay of a World Cup qualifying match but really I just don't care enough about soccer.

What to do with a day off

Today is Canada Day. Which means that we all have the day off work. I probably should be much more excited about my country I can't say that I'm particularly patriotic. Obviously there are some wonderful things about living in Canada: democracy, "free" health care, government support for post secondary education. I'm not however taking part in any of the Canada Day festivities save for walking to the end of my street to get a good view of the fireworks later tonight.

You would think that with all the complaining I do about work I would be ecstatic with a day off but not so much.

So then what did I accomplish on my nearly mid-week day off from work? Not a whole hell of a lot. I didn't get up until about 9 this morning, which was wonderful as I couldn't sleep last night and ended up staying up past midnight (which is late for me). I didn't shower until nearly noon. Then I made the mistake of going out for coffee. After watching soccer for the past couple of weeks I've decided that I should probably start doing some regular physical activity, so I figured I'd walk to the Robin's that's about 3 blocks from here. No big deal except that it's freaking hot(25 Celsius) and my hair was still wet from my shower. So the water in my hair got all warm and well I'm sure you've all had the experience of doing some sort of physical activity right after showering.

Pretty much immediately when I got back home I realized that I don't have any milk and of course Safeway is closed. I watched some TV and a couple of episodes of Scrubs that I had downloaded and pissed around on the internet until about 4 when I ventured out the 7-11 for my milk. Followed by more pissing around on the internet which leads me to this exact moment in time.

Oh blog, I'm sorry I forgot you

I only remembered that I even had a blog last night when I was thinking about College Basketball brackets and how I blogged the match-ups last year during the tournament. Today I noticed that I haven't even posted this year so I guess this is as good a time as any.

First of all I love my new job. This is mostly because the people are fantastic and as long as I get my daily reports sent out on time no one bothers me much. Leaving me plenty of time to do things like watch Degrassi: The Next Generation, while filing.

I'm also finding that I enjoy doing other things much more now that I'm out of the constant stress of my old position. I don't just look at my coffee breaks as time away from my desk, now I'm able to fully enjoy them.

The frustrating thing about term positions though is that eventually your term ends. For me that means going back to my soul-sucking old position. There have been alot of changes in that department recently though so I guess things could be better. But not bloody likely. So I'm looking for alternatives. First and foremost this involves Grad School, as it has always been my intention to go back some day. The problem is finding a good one. More on that another time.

Killing time

Strange how the day seems to go by so much slower when you start 30 minutes later. As I've said I've recently changed positions at work. My new boss requires me to come in later to cover a later shift. So for the last 3 days I've been in about half an hour later.

Normal it's about 2:45 and I'm bored but I manage to drag out cleaning my desk to make the time go by. Unfortuatly today I'm still bored at 2:45 and I can't think of anything else to do.

Pretending to look busy...

Another day at work another day doing a heck of alot of nothing. Apparently it's been a pretty slow year in our department so far. So I thought I'd make a list of all of the things I've done so far today:

  1. Looked to see if Chapter's had a book I wanted. They do so I'll be heading out to St. Vital to get it after work. I also have to pick up a microwave for my mom.
  2. Looked at iPod accessories. I don't know if you've seen but right now my current iPod case is being held together by a piece of Minnesota Wild sock tape, so I thought it was time to pick up a new one.
  3. Read several sports related blogs
  4. Tracked Tennis scores from Hamburg
  5. Blogged my own blog
  6. Helped clean-up some database files from another department.

Yeah that's about it. Pretty sad eh? I almost hope it picks up around here.
