Why you should never date an American

Did you guys see that World Junior's game last night? Totally awesome! The goaltending performance on both ends of the ice was amazing.

But it did cause some relationship tensions. See my almost-boyfriend lives in the Southern U.S. so of course he was cheering for the red, white and blue. We even made a little friendly bet. Loser has to buy a bottle of wine for our big romantic dinner at the end of January. I was trying really really hard not to gloat when Canada went up 2-0, then 3-0, then 4-1 and then we gave them the mercy goal.

Hope those American boys enjoy playing for bronze. And the Canada-Russia game should be amazing. Everyone brings their A-game to play Canada.

Another Random Sighting

Okay it's been a couple of years since the first one. About 4 in fact but still. Tonight I had another random run in with Jonathan Toews. The first one happened when me and my friend went to the mall, then to River City Sports and finally to Tim Horton's where he was with his family. Kinda strange but it was also a little exciting.

Tonight I was at the club with a couple of friends for a friend's birthday. I haven't been to a bar in about 6 months. Not since the last birthday party I attended. And who should arrive at the bar about 10 minutes later but our favorite Conn Smythe trophy winner. I knew right away that it was him but I didn't care, he's a young guy out on the town, big deal. But all night long you heard whispers of "Jonathan Toews". Then the birthday girl found me on her way to the bathroom and got really excited to tell me he was there.

So if it's not a big deal why am I writing about it? More to keep track of it than anything else. I mean if it keeps happening I have to assume he's stalking me, right? For the record I'm just kidding about the stalking part.

In case you missed it the Stanley Cup Finals are over. Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Chicago win is important to me for only one reason, the Cup is coming to town! I probably won't go to see the public viewing but it's nice to know that I could if I wanted to. I also won a little wager I had going with a friend so now I'm just hoping that he pays up. I'm sure he will though. Oh and also Jonathan Toews won the Conn Smythe. Good times.


No more hockey until October, what's a girl to do? My own plan is to check out sexy soccer players during the World Cup.

I just got PWN'D

So remember that awesome board game I was telling you about ? Well my younger brother just kicked my ass! So badly that we didn't even finish.

His starting line was a 63 power ranking, you get a extra goal to start with for every power point over 52 so he had a automatic starting 11 goals. I had zero goals to start, so there was no way I could win a match. Even if I scored the maximum 3 goals per period I still would have lost by 2 goals.

The 10s mean the power ranking, the card under the top middle card is the Hart Trophy for MVP. And the yellow chip is a long term contract chip meaning that I wouldn't be able to steal that player in Free Agency. Not that I had any money to do it anyway.

Oh well better luck next time I guess.

"Honey, what's Sidney Crosby doing in our shower?" and other hilarity

You know you have too much time on your hands when you spend half a day checking out Youtube videos. The quality on this is pretty low but I thought some of these were pretty funny.

Add me to the list...

of Sidney Crosby fangirls. I've tried to resist, I really have. But I can't deny that he's a hell of a hockey player. And I realized while watching a Tim Horton's commercial just how kissable his lips are. Normally I watch that commercial and say "oh that Crosby/Tim's commercial is on, but the last time I saw it I could stop staring at his lips thinking about of soft and lovely they looked. He's got sort of a natural pout. And ya'll know how I love a pouter (see my obsession with Jay Cutler). Sure he's a little on the young side. And I'm sure his girlfriend is absolutely stunning but none of that matters. It's not like I plan to marry him (again I'm reserving that for Jay Cutler).

Does this post make me sound as pathetic as I think it does? Yeah, alright I'll just have to learn to deal with it. So what are your thoughts on Sidney Crosby?

Just another reason to get on with my GRE studying

You know you've been away from the real world too long when you don't even realize that one of your favorite (but then again I have lots of favorites) players switched teams in the off season.


Martin Havlat signed with the Minnesota Wild in the off season. So I guess that means I'd better get studying so that I can move to Minneapolis.

Actually I'm going to Minneapolis next weekend. Well if we aren't shopped out by the time it's time to go there.

Every day it gets a little bit easier

I was a little bit skeptical about starting these new treatments but I think they're helping. I'm starting to feel somewhat normal again. I'm getting excited for football season and the U.S. Open tennis and even hockey season.

A couple of days ago I saw people from my work on the bus and I didn't quite know what to say. I wasn't sure how much they already knew and I didn't want to give out more information than I needed to. So I just didn't say anything. Today I saw someone else that I work with on the bus and I even got up and moved closer. It was good that it was someone that I'm really comfortable with and who kind of knew what was going on without me really having to tell her and she seemed genuinely excited to see me too.

So yeah some day I might be able to transfer buses infront of my work and not feel like I'm about to bawl. And that will be the first sign that maybe I can think about going back. Until then I'll just continue to take it one day at a time.

Book of the day club

Some of the women in my department at work have been doing a book trade for as long as I have been working here. Recently they've included me in their regular rotation. But it takes me forever to read the books I'm given.

It's not that I'm a slow reader it's just that I don't commit myself to a book. First of all I have to be in the mood to read. I go through stretches where I read a lot and then others where I just won't even think about picking up a book.

I'm also often busy doing other things that aren't exactly conducive to reading. Watching NHL playoffs for example. Although I've developed a system for this now. I mute it during TV time outs and intermission and read rather than listen to Don Cherry gripe about how soft Europeans are.

What I've been up to

I'm going to have to apologize for not writing more frequently. Things have just been a mess lately. I also don't really have anything interesting to say. I've been watching a lot of hockey lately, which isn't all that surprising given that it's playoff time. I've also been catching up on the new episodes of Greek, which is good times.

Oh and I found an ice cream place I really like.

Boy am I Glad I Took Today Off

Oh how I love the World Junior Hockey Championships. Canada clinched their semi-final spot on New Year's Eve by beating the USA and finishing first in their pool. Sweden got the other bye to the semi-finals. Today is quarterfinals day. I just watched what is so far the upset of the tournament. Slovakia beat the USA 5-3. Mind you 2 of those Slovakia goals were into empty nets but still a win is a win. Also the Slovak goalie was pretty amazing given that they were out shot 49-19. The win was promptly followed by the traditional Slovak circle jumping thing that they do.

So Slovakia will go on to play Sweden for a shot at the gold medal. Canada will play the winner of Russia and the Czech Republic which is going down tonight.

I suppose if I had been sneaky about it I could have watched the game at work since TSN was streaming it but I wouldn't do a thing like that. Well except for when I did it last year. But that was different.

I am probably the worst hockey fan ever

Okay so this post title probably isn't particularly accurate there are much worse hockey fans but for someone who prides herself on knowing her stuff I think it's kind of pathetic that I'm only just now getting around to watching one of the only hockey movies out there.

About a year and a half ago I got the movie Miracle for Christmas. Somewhere between school, graduating, moving and stepping out into the real world I entirely forgot to watch it. It also doesn't help that it's glorifying American hockey and so watching it makes me feel just a little bit dirty. So in the dead of summer with all the "good" shows in re-runs and all the good sports in the off-season I felt it was about time I sit down and watch it.

Anyway I'm about a 1/3 of the way through and it's turning out to be not so bad which is surprising because I don't think I've actually seen a movie that I liked in the past 5 years. Well except the Lord of the Rings movies but that's because I'm super dork.

1986 was a Good Year

On the heels of Rafa winning Wimbledon I’m reminded that ‘s only 22. This is a bit of a problem for me as my younger brother is also 22 making 22 my lower guy limit. However I’m also reminded that there are a whole lot of age-inappropriate hotties of this age. I’ve actually been meaning to write this for a while and just never really got around to it.

We’ll start with Rafael Nadal since he’s fresh on my mind. Okay so this is maybe not the best picture I’ve ever seen of him but he’s holding the Wimbledon championship trophy so that’s hot. He’s also a 4 time French Open champion and you’ll remember that the French is my favorite of all the majors.

Speaking of french here's another tennis player, Richard Gasquet. I'm not really sure what it is about him that I find attractive exactly but I think he's cute.

Moving on. Cam Barker of the Chicago Blackhawks. I always have a bit of an issue trying to remember how old these guys are come Christmas time when the Canadian Junior Hockey team is kicking butt. Anyway Cam is a good ol' Manitoba boy. He also played for the Medicine Hat Tigers in Junior. They were one of my favorite junior teams because I won a Medicine Hat Tigers ball cap from their website and they actually shipped it to me.

Calgary Flames goal prospect Matt Keetley. I'm not going to lie I had to do a smidgen of research for this one. I couldn't have more tennis players than hockey players in here. But apparently 1987 was the year for very attractive hockey players.

David McClure of the much hated Duke Blue Devils basketball team. I discovered him last year during the NCAA championships when I was doing hotness match ups. I don’t really have much else to say here. He looks way better in a suit. Oh he was my first College Basketball boyfriend.

Sergio Ramos, soccer player from Spain. This one I’m just a little bit conflicted on. I have seen pictures where he looks hot. But I have also seen pictures where I feel a little bit sick after looking at them and remembering that I thought he was hot. So I don’t know which way I’m leaning on this one.

I’m sure I’m missing a whole bunch of people. But these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

As I’m writing this I’m also realizing that 1987 was maybe even a little better. I may have to get around to doing a similar post of this fashion for that year. Although I will feel a WHOLE lot creepier about it.

Goal of the Week

Reviewing last week's goal Well I finished my Accounting assignment but obviously I don't understand any of it. So I most definatly need to review this before I write my final.

This week's goal is to watch a least one late playoff game. I've watched bits and pieces of some of them but haven't been able to make it through a whole one yet.

As with most of these I have to first post a disclaimer. I share a special bond with Braydon Coburn of the Flyers. You see he is exactly 6 months younger than me (no to the hour or anything). In order to properly celebrate my un-birthday in rez I went out and got an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen and had them do lettering that said "Happy un/birthday Janalee and Braydon. I think I took pictures but I'm pretty sure I didn't have them developed. Anyway I just wanted to get that out before I start.

Oh wait I have slightly more disclosure to add. I once voted for a guy for president of university's student union because he looked like Scottie Upshall. Everytime I think about that I'm reminded of an episode of Clone High where JFK is running for student body president against Abe, and during one of his speeches he say "ask not what your student body president can do for you, but what you can do to you student body president's body".

First of all I'd like to say that I'm going to try to finish these all before the end of the series. We'll see how it goes. The first round sucked. I think it's just because I fell behind and then I was a little depressed when Ottawa lost. All better now, as I've chosed Montreal as my backup team.

Here's the think about Colorado. I used to be an Avs fan. I blame my brother who was a huge Nordiques fan and also recently acquired an Avalanche jersey from my closet, because let's face it no one wears jerseys anymore except in the comfort of thier own home while watching the game. Anyway as I'm going through the roster I'm thinking "oh I love (insert name of Avs player), but he's not hot."

Sometimes I wonder if I've got brain damage

As I'm working on my playoff hotties series I'm finding that I have to go through every teams roster to figure out who's hot and who's not. There was a time when I would have been able to go team by team and name these players from memory. What happened? But that is not the point of this particular post.

The point here is actually that as I go through them I certainly recognize names. It's hard not to when you've been doing this for eight years. As I recognize names I recall things like "oh he's hot" or "no definatly not hot" before I actually pull up the pictures. Then when the page acutally loads I find myself thinking that most of the guys that I remember as being hot actually aren't.

Is it just that they're getting old and I'm getting older and my tastes have changed? Probably not. When I reflect on all of the people that I've ever had crushes on I almost always think "what was I thinking?" Maybe it's just me trying to make myself feel better when things don't work out with a particular crush but the way I go through them I don't think I've really got time to have become attached in the first place.

Series Hottie: Montreal - Boston

This one was kind of difficult as these are two teams that I definitely don't pay any attention too normally. Not to mention that I've been a horrible hockey fan this year.
