Sports Karma

I don't know if you've noticed but I sort of like sports, just a little. Today I'm a little worried. It's Superbowl Sunday, which is huge. But it's also the finals of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Canadian Women's curling championship.

I'm watching the final and it's a really close game between Canada and PEI. How is PEI playing against the country its in you ask? Well because the previous year's champion comes back the next year wearing the maple leaf. This year Canada is represented by the Jennifer Jones (pictured left) team out of my home province of Manitoba. So I'm cheering for them. And it seems to be working. It's the 10th end (the last end barring an extra) and Canada is up by one point without hammer. If you don't understand curling basically hammer is the last rock which is really important.

But am I using all my sports karma on this game? Will there be enough left for the Colts to win the Superbowl tonight? Am I possibly insane? Wait don't answer that last question.

That's it next year I'm getting Sunday Ticket

So it's football season again. Actually we're almost half way through the season. Up until now I've been able to find a game to watch on Sunday. Considering that there are 4 teams (Indy, New York Giants, New Orleans and Chicago) that I will watch if I can find their game. However this week they aren't showing any of those games in my area except the Giants game which is the Sunday night feature.

My brother has NFL Sunday Ticket which allows you to watch any game you want, which is pretty sweet. But I didn't want to spend the money to get it. Maybe next season I'll re-think that.

Watching Baseball

I can't believe I watched baseball last night. I hate baseball. To be completely honest I was also watching the Colts game so it was kind of a flip back and forth kind of deal. So what was I doing watching baseball then?

Well see it started because I was out at the farm for the weekend and my dad was watching the game. So I sat down to watch with him until the football game started. That's when I realized it was the Twins vs. the Yankees. Now because I don't like baseball and therefore don't follow it the only player I knew besides Jeter and A-Rod was Joe Mauer of the Twins.

So Lisa if you're still following this one's for you. I've been trying to get you a Joe Mauer bobblehead for the last year but the 2009 versions are terrible so here's a picture instead.

I get the feeling this is going to be a long month

I'm 4 days into this blog-a-day thing and already I'm forgetting to post. I could be because I did two yesterday but more likely it's because I've spent the whole day being lazy and therefore not connected to the Internet.

In my general laziness I watched exactly no football today. Mostly because I'm still pissed that the Colts lost last night.

I also feel that I need to mention that it's freaking cold out right now. It's -37 Celsius with the windchill which is extremely freaking cold. Makes me glad I barely left my bed today.

Decisions, Decisions

I had the perfect plan for today to watch the semi-final games at the World Junior's, until I remembered that NFL playoffs start this weekend so there are games today. The first choice was easy, Atlanta vs Arizona wasn't even a game I wanted to watch so I can skip that and watch Sweden very likely kick the crap out of Slovakia, although they only beat them 3-1 in the prelims.

The second one is a whole lot tougher. The Canadians are playing the Russians which should be a fantastic game unless the Canadians get out in front early and often. The football game is the Colts vs. the Chargers. Which is probably the game of the weekend football wise. While the Colts are generally my favorite team I haven't been very good about watching them this year. There always seems to be something else to do whenever they happen to have a televised game. So I guess it will depend how the first period of the hockey game goes. If it's ugly then I'll turn to football. If it's close then I'll really have to make a game time decision.

Why I hate fantasy football

I joined a Fantasy Football League at work this year. I was actually pretty psyched that the boys asked me to join. I'm also currently leading the league. So what's not to love, right?

Well this week my opponent in head to head has 4 players from my favorite team (I have none by the way). This makes it awfully difficult for me to cheer for the Colts knowing that every time someone on the Colts who isn't Peyton Manning touches the ball he's probably getting fantasy points. My fantasy team is also done for the week so I don't really have any excitement about tonight's game.

I hope the game ends 3-0 in favor of the Colts. At least he doesn't have Vinatieri kicking.

Christmas in March

Yesterday my brother and I went to RiverCity sports where I purchased some Indianapolis Colts christmas ornaments. Some of you will remember that I attempted to purchase something of this sort online, only to find out my package had been returned to sender.

Anyway, I was so excited about my purchase that I didn't want them to just sit in my closet for nearly a year waiting to be used. When I came upon the brilliant idea that all I have to do it put up my fake tree again. It'll be like Christmas all over again, without the presents. My brother's reaction when I told him this was "that is something you would do". I'm not going to though because my laziness is outweighing my excitement over the oroments.

The tough choices in life.

Most of you know that I graduated from university in the spring. With graduation comes the convocation ceremonies. I skipped my spring convocation ceremony thinking that I would go to the fall one. Yesterday I realized that my convocation is on the same day as the Colts/Patriots game. Which is quite possibly the biggest regular season game of the year. Particularly if both teams remain undefeated.

Convocation starts at 3:00, game starts at 3:15. So there is no way that convocation will be over by the time the game start. What's a girl to do?

The boys at work looked at me like I was crazy when I told them this. They said it was an easy decision. I should mention here though that 2/3 of them are Colts fans.

I know the game will be re-broadcast later in the week on NFL network but I also know that the boys at work will be discussing the game on Monday. Gah!
