The Wisdom of a Country Song

People give me a lot of crap about being into country music with the whole "my wife left me, my car broke down and my dog hates me stuff", but given the recent love life situation I've found that country music covers pretty much every emotion you could possibly have.

There are two songs in particular that are really hitting me these days. Both of them are by George Strait. One of them has been on my iPod forever the other one I pretty much forgot about until recently.

The first one is "You can't make a heart love somebody". This has been one of my favorite songs since the first time I heard it. I still remember exactly where I was, what I was doing and who I was with when I first heard it and it's stuck with me ever since. I actually remember crying when I heard it for the first time.

The other is "I know she still loves me", which if you listen to the song isn't exactly how the situation went down but as time goes on I think this is kind of how I feel. Yes I still care, but in someways I don't even have the urge to talk to him anymore. Possibly a sign that I'm ready to move on. Or a sign that I'm going back into Janalee Robot mode in which I don't really feel anything about anything.

Are there any songs out there that really speak to you? Has listening to a specific song ever gotten you through a tough spot?

Since when do we get Around the Horn?

For about 2 years I have been downloading Around the Horn podcasts so that I can listen to them on my way to work. For the same amount of time I have been complaining about the fact that this show doesn't air in Canada.

As it turns out it is on in Canada. I don't know how long is has been going on but the other day when I turned on my TV there was Tony Reali and the rest of the gang doing their sports talkshow thing.

To be honest it's not the greatest show and I actually think I enjoyed the disembodies voices better but Reali is hot. I don't care if he just got married he's still hot.

Music Memory

So recently I've been listening to music that can only be described as crap. Absolute crap. So why would I listen to crappy music? Because it reminds me of other things. I'm sure everyone has songs that they associate with other thoughts, feelings, people, ect.

For example everytime I hear Calling Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks, I think of my College Graduation. It was the last song played at the social and everyone that was left there got up and danced. Similarly another Garth Brooks song makes me think of my high school graduation because it's the song we all walked into.

Some songs you don't even know remind you of anything until you actually hear the song again. There is a song that isn't often played on the radio anymore that reminds me of riding in the tractor with my older brother. I can't really remember what song it is but if I heard it I'd know right away.

I don't know if this can be an excuse for poor taste in music but it's what I'm going with for now. I just hope no one digging through my iPod with question my legitimate taste in music as a result.

I'm going to try to keep a list of songs that remind me of other things in the comments (we'll see how long this lasts). You can too if you want

Yes I'd go with you. Now will you please stop asking.

I've been spending alot of time listening to my iPod lately, mostly on my way to work, but I didn't really notice until the other day that I haven't really added new music in a long time. Or at least not new music that I want to listen to over and over again.

Anyway this got me to thinking, besides the fact that I need to add some new stuff to my musical library, that I've listened to the Josh Turner song "Will you go with me" about a bigillion times. Okay maybe I'm exagerating just a little bit, iTunes says it's only been 53 (but of course it doesn't count when I listen to it on my iPod). That man's voice makes me a little bit weak in the knees and he's cute.

I've generally maintained that I would not shell out any money to see musical acts in concert, partly because I don't want to spend $ 70 to sit in the nosebleeds and watch them perform on a big screen, (if I wanted to do that I could stay at home and save the $70) and secondly because from what I've seen of live shows they are entirely dissapointing from a vocal talent standpoint. That or they lip-synch a la Shania Twain at the Grey Cup. But I would actually go to see Josh Turner in concert.

Oh and for the record I've listened to "just to be your man" 102 times according to iTunes.
